Building Games and Events - More Fun for Elf Clan

Over the years I've seen this happen more and more gradually, and not many people have noticed, but any elf clan event that occurs today, is only sit around and talk with animations and rampant spam of shouts and emotes. This can be good and fun, if it wasn't the only thing that happened. Back in the day, we had battlemace near the start of it, and competed all the time. We also had archery and contests. Occasionally crazy games were created, like my poorly done pirate game, it worked but was slow. Point is, and I hate to say it, it's not "fun" like it used to be.

It is with such, that I am suggesting a return to the roots and revamping the fun even more, by working to create all sorts of fun games to simple social meetings into competitions and fun. With Physics in place and about to be finalized, the possibilities of games has returned.

These are games that can be created without too much hassle if I get some help getting them back together,

BattleMace - The Elf Clan classic. Just a mace or club knocking someone back in a battle to knock them out of an arena or off a bridge. Let's update it with some fancier and more realistic maces and add a nice texture star impact when someone is hit for fun effect!

Archery - It's inevitable, and fun, but it was too simple back in the old days. Let's add a pullback timer on the bow so we have to have some practice or pull back all the way each time.

New Games!

Archery Duel - We'll change out the bows to have arrows with colored powdered sacks and have a burst of powder particles appear when a person is hit. A duel between archers, wouldn't that be fun?

Battle Go-Carts - Think Elf Clan version of mario cart! If enouygh scripting help is added ,we could even add in power ups! Imagine driving an elf clan inspired mobile wagon along a race course with boosters, different speed and combat abilities between the carts with the goal of removing them from the race or beating them to the finish line! Maybe create 3 of each car for 3 mods of play - race, race with mario cart like power ups and tricks, and combat race with cars blowing up and their tires falling off when their HP meter hits 0. Lots of fun can be had and made with this game type.

Balloon Battle- Cross some hot air balloons and bows and arrows. A fun little team type game with all sorts of balloon types to get above or below opponents and fire at them till they pop! Maybe add in a Hindenberg with several members versus several 2 man balloons (since there is always a driver and an archer).

Return of the Ork War - Rather than a war, a skirmish battle system. Using the old combat system style, just a match for who can beat who in a larger battle than one on one.

Viking "skee" Ball (also called Orkish Golf until goblins were used to replace the ball) - Take several cylinders to catch a ball, except that ball is a boulder, and instead of skeeing it you are using a catapult to time your strength of throw and launch it into the center hole. Note - For the "adventuresome" gentleman of class, the "ball" may be replaced with a "dwagon". A favorite of bartenders!

Ballista Firing Range - Using a vehicle system, turn a series of ballista platforms into free-floating turrets where you have 4 players compete to get the highest score of a firing range with all sorts of mobile and stationary targets, some set, some that pop up, some that move across.

Boulder Dodge - Elf Clan games should be as insane and fun as possible, and this fits the bill. A projectile launch launch a hoard of boulders into the air at a playing field, where players try to dodge them until the last standing is left. It's like one sided dodge ball!

This is just a first set of game ideas, if you like any of these new ideas, voice up! Or they may never see the light of day! Many of these aren't too hard to make, and lots of corners can be cut if needed, so a lot can be made with ease!

I'm also going to need some scripting help just to get them going, and probably a few builders to help me with some more elf themed builds. If you want to help, voice up here, I need a few scripters especially to get some of these underway.

Just help me get some assistance, I can do most of the time consuming parts, but I'm no scripter, and I don't know what new stuff is needed in IZ physics code or what not. I also think we need more building to add more elven flair to the item, or else it'll be ALL non-elven themed events, quite the OPPOSITE of ELF clan, right? If it goes well, I'll even reinvent the pirate games and such. Any theme needed, just need a minor scriptor who can do a few things or a better one to do the REALLY fun stuff!

Well, weaponry and push physics is still a while off.  They're still working on avatar physics-- which is a little overdue to hit all the regions but we're expecting it any time now.  I'd say it will still be a while before we have physics to the point of BattleMace and Archery.

HOWEVER... that said... Elf Clan already does have an archery range, based on Balpien Hammerer's archery system.  So if you'd like to host an archery tournament, I'm sure some of our members would get a kick out of that.   Balpien provides a free bow... or members can purchase more elaborate ones.

One thing I think that can really boost fun, popularity, and activity, is the vehicle physics. I hear the base physics are close, so that means building the starting form won't be too hard. Vehicular physics can create a great starting point. This is where my skills with design come in. Making a fun and zany kart racing game can really make things fun, even without projectiles or other things to add in "power ups". One easy thing that could be added is a phantom prim that when passed through, gives an involuntary speed boost to a vehicle. All in all, just a colorful and fun race course is all we need and can be something that, thanks to IZ logic, be deployed on a whim and taken up quickly too. Imagine being able to have dozens of courses that can be switched instantly. I think a nice track would be one where people can race and there can be a nice party area and make it part of the track. Imagine having a car going off track and wrecking the party! All part of the fun!

One of the advantages of Inworldz is unlimited linking distance. That means several tracks could be put in a rezzer and any one of them rezzed instantly.  And since the track would be one object we could make use of message linking instead of dozens of listens... a real lag-preventative.

Yeah, and here's another idea for ya Way - imagine making a raw race track. Then, creating a month long community build event to create area around the track. The scenic routes, the emblems, the territory styling. It could give people something to do and let them add to the project. And with so many types, I know you're gonna want a future city style race track if we can get some karts up and running!

I've been so surprised at the disbelief by so many people I've talked to that the bows I make do not work. Somehow without the magic physics, people believe they cannot possibly work, the arrow could not possibly fly. Well they do, and in push enabled areas they pack a wallop. Still, I like the idea of having the arrows leave different effects. My paintball guns do exactly that. Each ball can be colored differently. And so, I will make arrows that emit different colors of particles on impact. That should help the game play. Also, physics is finally upon us. Just today I gave my thumbs up to release it grid wide. And so, I am working on the physics version of the bows. Another fun one is that my air kraken are flying again in the physx enabled regions. Those kraken will attack when shot at, and that should make for an interesting game :) More on this later.

Sounds awesome Balpien, real fun stuff. Let me know if you ever need any help getting some perty builds for your awesome scripts, I'd be more than willing to help to see some fun get around Inworldz.
