Honor, Respect and Friendship

A basic discussion of some of the core concepts of Elf Clan.

* Honor * Respect * Friendship*

These are the three "prime-directives" of Elf Clan. These concepts have served us well. But at times they also force us to take a strong stance against those who choose to not exhibit these traits.

NOT JUST LIP SERVICE

In Elf Clan the concept of Honor is not just a lip-service, role-play device. We believe in it to our core. That honor demands that we… Continue

ATTENTION MERCHANTS: DE-MONO YOUR SCRIPTS!

Greetings all, but not glad tidings.

Months ago I reported time inconsistencies involved with the MONO system and recommended that for most less-intensive scripting, coders stick with LsL basic. Little did I know how right-on-the-button that blog would prove to be.

Please read the following external blog:

PG Grids Work

Another grid has decided to adopt the policy of PG-only: New World Grid, based in France.

This is particularly interesting, as France is known for their more relaxed view regarding nudity in general.

Today, New World (http://Newworldgrid.com) announced it was switching to PG-only, with the stipulation that special requests could be made to the administrators for projects such as art shows which might contain items not strictly PG. Even… Continue

The 512m Mega-Sim Concept

I was musing this evening and some thoughts of prior posts and pricing concepts suddenly sprang to mind. I thought I'd share:

In prior blogs I mentioned the idea of the "mega-sim"... 512m instead of 256m... run on a single core. Work is already being done on OpenSim to allow exactly that (although we have no idea when such will be fully implemented).

It strikes me... if a 512m sim could be hosted on a single core... four people could go together on such and share the cost… Continue

Great Quotes

If you hear a great quote, feel free to add it in the comments along with the author. : )

"What are Linden Bears for... so that we have something to hug when things go horribly wrong?"

-- Koni Lanzius

"Some people are so open-minded their brains fall out."

-- Rick Warren

"Question: How many Lindens does it take to change a light bulb? Answer: It's customer content. We can't replicate the bulb being burned out. You're using too many bulbs.… Continue

ELF CLAN DISCOVERS TWO SL FLAWS ASSOCIATED WITH TELEPORTING

Once again, we've discovered two main issues on Second Life. We're posting it here to make Elf Clan members aware.

ONE OF THE CHIEF CAUSES OF LAG

Discovered by Wayfinder Wishbringer

We have often wondered from time to time what it is exactly that causes a sim out of nowhere, for no discernible reason, to suddenly lag to a standstill. At least one of those reasons has been discovered:

When an avatar ports into or out of a sim, it appears the sim… Continue

Meeting the Greeters

If you look at the Elf Clan MEMBERS page, you will note "Featured members" at the top. These are our Eldars and Greeters. But who are these people? I thought I'd take a moment to review a few, in the order presented.

Wayfinder Wishbringer--High Elven. Founder and Eldar of Elf Clan, owner of our Reaction Grid sims. Designer of ElvenMyst and ElvenHearth sim layouts and builder of the Elf Clan floating castle. Notable… Continue
