ELF CLAN EVENTS COMMITTEE pt 2

EVENTS ARE ESSENTIAL

Has Elf Clan seemed kind of boring lately? Not much to do? No one hanging around?

Welcome to "no events land". Events are the lifeblood of any group. Without events, groups stagnate and even die. So the bottom line is, Elf Clan must have events if we are to survive as a group. We need to attract people to the sandbox, to the market, to… Continue

Rooting For OpenSim

Most of us are acquainted with the OpenSim project. We know it has issues and problems. I've been very frank about such in the past, while still trying to retain a positive and hopeful attitude overall.

To remove potential misunderstanding, I am by no means anti-OpenSim... not in the slightest. I mean, think about it. This is a volunteer project, open-source, and major in scope. It is designed in concept to de-throne the monopoly of Second Life, fight the stupidity of $295-a-month… Continue

4096m - 1750 PRIMS- L$1750... HERE'S HOW!

You can rent 4096m of land with 1,750 prims for only L$1750. And yes there's a catch:

The land isn't on Second Life. It's also not on OpenSim.

Elf Clan is now supporting a grid called INWORLDZ. (http://inworldz.com).

Inworldz is based on the OpenSim system... but they started with that very-buggy code and took it from there. Inworldz is one of the few grids doing their own development work. Yes, it's buggy and often lags-- but then,… Continue

Please read all of this document before building.

To rent lands, please use the rental boxes on the EAST WALL of the floating castle at ElvenMyst in Second Life. The location of the rental boxes corresponds to the plot of land.

PLEASE ADHERE TO THESE GUIDELINES

NEW ELF CLAN EVENTS COMMITTEE

We are often asked by members, "How can I help Elf Clan?". Well... here is a terrific way, right on your doorstep.

There is no question that events are the heart of any group. The reality is simple:

* The more events a group has, the more active its members.

* A group without events stagnates and dies.

* Sometimes events work (have lots of attendance) sometimes they don't (no one shows up), but one thing is certain: if we don't host them, no one

will show up 100%… Continue

LINUX -- ORGANIZE THE CHAOS

Chaos Rarely Breeds Order

A LINUX COMMUNITY CALL TO COOPERATION

Greetings all. Going out on a limb here and calling on the Linux community to unify and grow.

Why am I doing this? Because although I'm a very-early-retired professional corporate computer consultant with almost three decades of experience... entering the Linux community recently required extensive research, experimentation and forum-questions to even get off the ground. I hear this same… Continue

Weathering Change

From Wayfinder Wishbringer:

Greetings members! I hope this post finds you well and eager... if perhaps a bit ragged from recent changes on Second Life and elsewhere.

It seems that sometimes so many things hit all at the same time it just stresses us out. During the past month we have had five major changes hit us, seemingly all at once:

1. New SL TOS (a rather one-sided and abusive document)

2. New Third Party Viewer policies (also not balanced in… Continue

Goodbye RG, Hello IZ!

GOODBYE REACTION GRID... HELLO INWORLDZ!

Greetings members. I have a bittersweet announcement to make today, but one filled with anticipation.

June 1, 2010 Elf Clan will be moving away from the Reaction Grid platform and establishing firmer roots with Inworldz. We've notified the RG people and they have given us their best wishes and goodwill-- which we most certainly return in kind.

OUR…

Migrating Away from Ning

ELF CLAN MIGRATING AWAY FROM NING

Ning released their new pricing plans today. I had withheld our final decision to leave Ning in hopes they would present a more reasonable solution. Unfortunately (as things often go) their new policies are worse than we'd expected. As a result of those policies, Elf Clan WILL be migrating from Ning to a different community board.

I was momentarily hopeful when… Continue

Crash #6-Bogus Story-One Has to Wonder

Last week, Second Life experienced the 6th grid crash since I've been a member. It is also the 6th grid crash I have predicted within 2 weeks of its happening. (It's actually the 7th potential grid crash I've predicted... but one such prediction helped LL prevent one of them.) That's batting 1000... and then some.

In response to the crash, Linden Lab released a public announcement that the crash had been caused by a power outage. Their story can be found here: …
