End of the Sham-- The Real User Figures

I was exploring Wikipedia today. Now, admittedly, not everything on Wikipedia is Word-o-God. But there is much to be gleaned from that site... especially when official sources are quoted. I found two very interesting charts there regarding Second Life Premium Membership growth figures over the past 3 years:

Pre-March 2007 major growth…

Just a couple of quick notes about building quirks on Reaction Grid, to save you hours of headache and hassle.

As we all know, the OpenSim project is relatively new, and is still in development stage. A lot of things work and work well... and a lot of things don't. They've accomplished a lot in the short period of time they've been online.

Second Life has been online for some 6 years now, and they are still chuck-full of bugs. So in the… Continue

The Truth About Open Space Sims Comes Out

Historical note: LL now refers to the prior "OpenSpace Sims" as "Homestead Sims". Don't let it confuse. For those unaware of this fiasco: Linden Lab originally sold some $4 million worth of "Open Space" sims, sims that allowed 3,750 prims for $75 a month. After pulling in those fees, they announced that customers were "abusing" those sims and that they were increasing prices to $95... with another price jump to $125 in July of 2009. Their claims of widespread customer abuse were exposed… Continue

Using Second Inventory on Reaction Grid

NOTE: For an easy to use FREE solution to backing up Second Life inventory, see this article: BACKING UP WITH MEERKAT

While Meerkat is very easy to use, it unfortunately (at this time) cannot back up items such as sounds, shapes, clothing and skins. For such items you will need Second Inventory.

Second Inventory is a program that can help you transfer items from Second Life to OpenSim-based… Continue

Linden Lag Strikes Again

No, this article isn't on lag.

This is about the apathetic response to serious issues that seems to pervade Linden Lab system management and coding staff.

This is from JIRA SVC-1507. This JIRA was posted by Honey Fairweather. It echos another JIRA that I myself posted on the same subject. The JIRA is… Continue

More Linden Lab Damaging Decisions

Well, the Linden Lab Management Team is hard at work again, always ready and willing to solve their server problems by limiting your abilities.

With their typical "let's tackle the symptom rather than the actual cause of the problem" mentality, Linden Lab has released this information regarding their 1.26.3 server software:

* Limit the size of coalesced objects, to help reduce the ability of you taking an object you can't re-rez.... You are now ted to taking 1000… Continue

A Great Disservice to SL

In the few days since we've opened up four sims on Reaction Grid, I have noticed something I did not expect: an entirely different flavor and atmosphere from SL. It didn't take me long to identify the difference: RG is a fairly stress-free environment.

I noticed this most strongly upon considering how to lay out our sims: Since there is no "traffic" concept on RG, since there are currently no finances (nor plans for such at this time), since our lands are inexpensive enough we don't… Continue

Welcome to Reaction Grid (see our other blogs for information on this external grid and how to register/log in to that grid): REACTION GRID

Even if you're already renting on Second Life, feel free to pick up a special "pioneering spirit" plot on Reaction. At L$1500 a month for 1200 prims... it's a great deal! : )
