Is the Virtual Reality Market Saturated?

-- a commentary by Wayfinder Wishbringer, Founder of Elf Clan

Over the past few months a statement has been repeated in the Inworldz forums, namely that the virtual reality market is "saturated"... that Second Life has already pulled as many potential customers from the market as are likely to exist and that any new customers are going to have to come from a totally new-concept market.

Personally... I…

Grids Now Offering Larger Regions

In a recent issue of Hypergrid Business there appeared an article talking about grids offering larger regions at no additional cost.  HB quotes one of the grid owners:

"“We don’t raise the price as long as they don’t need to scale the server resources,” he said. This means that long as region renters continue to have the same…

The Virtual World Uphill Struggle

-- A commentary by Wayfinder, as is my occasional habit  ; )

We've all read a great deal lately about problems with Virtual worlds, specifically Inworldz because this is our home.  Some view such as "negativity".  I view such as solid gold customer feedback.  Companies pay for this kind of "information from the trenches".   Valid or invalid, positive or critical... it's customer feedback.

Customers silently fuming is far more negative and destructive. …

Unique Music Instruments Around the World

This is a copy of a post I wrote on the Inworldz forums but I decided to duplicate here for Elf Clan postertity and 'cos music is awesomesauce.  : )

Folks may know that I make cigar box guitars.  The very name classifies it as a "guitar"... however it's played differently, tends to have only 3 strings, and most I've seen are made by hand (power tools is okay too).  To me, that makes almost the entire genre "unique".  All one has to do is…

"Druid" Role Play in Elf Clan

A couple of members have understandably mentioned a recently announced event regarding "Druid Rituals"... and questioned if such conflicted with the Elf Clan Charter regarding "no religious activities".

I discussed this personally with the leaders of Chanwood and they were most informative and cooperative.  I think to begin this discussion a quote directly from them would be helpful.  Regarding their Druid roleplay and ceremonies, Chanwood states:

"They are…

Note:  The following blog is not intended as critical of Inworldz specifically, but is rather a commentary on virtual reality in general... and what may be necessary in order for it to survive in a world of highly-competitive computer games and entertainment.

Inworldz has stated it is "not an SL clone" and has no intention of being so.   But more is going to be needed than a few improvements on the basic SL concept to make that claim stand.  This article intends to…

Taking an Extended Semi-Vacation

Halloo from you friend, Snoots.

I wanted to let everyone know I'm taking an extended semi-vacation from VR (not totally, just semi).  Posting this because our group is very caring and when someone disappears for any length of time, people start wondering if is okay.   So letting you know I'm okay... just shifting priorities. :-)

Advertising in Elf Clan

Greetings members!

Recently we've had a couple of members inquire as to Elf Clan's policy on advertising.  I've therefore expanded the Charter info pages a bit to be more informative.  Here are current Charter guidelines on such:

Grand Opening Sendalonde Library

We are very proud to announce the grand opening of the Community Library located in Sendalonde, owned by Alexina Proctor and Prax Maryjasz.

In the past few months hard work has been done to build the library, a huge gothic building and it's surroundings.

Though a large collection of books, all in fantasy theme, are ofcourse the main attraction there is more to enjoy. Walk in the gardens…

Fibromyalgia / PTSD Correlation -- an unofficial paper

I've wanted to write this article for some time but have been gathering additional information.  The final piece fell into place when I read a couple of releases on the same subject:

Integrated Tissue Dynamics

In this article it reveals new information:

“Instead of being in the brain, the pathology consists of excessive sensory nerve fibers around…

Remodeled Lost-Cause Guitar

Along with the hobby of making Box Guitars I've recently rebuilt three guitars.  Photos of one follow this story.

Hand-Made Box Amp

I've taken on a new hobby lately:   box guitars (also known as "cigar box guitars").

Rather than a guitar though, my first project started with an amplifier.  After all, how can you test the electronics on a guitar if you don't have an amp available?

Following are photos of my first completed box-amp, with information underneath.  Hope you enjoy the tour. : )

The Dragon and the Pet Shop

Is true story.

A dragon walks into a local petshop.

"Greetings!" he says to the owner. "Do you have any rabbits?"

"Oh no," the shop owner says. "I know you dragons. You just plan on eating that rabbit. I would not dream of putting the poor creatures through such a final experience!"

The dragon stops and thinks. "I'd really like a pet. How about a guinea pig?"

"You're not fooling me," the shop owner replies. "You're a dragon. You'll…

The State of Virtual Reality, Nov 2013

It's been my habit to annually review Virtual Reality as a whole at the end of the year. I usually do that sometime in December, but I'm feeling like writing tonight and I'm only a month early. If something earth-shaking happens in the next 30 days I can always write an update blog.

So here it is Sunday, Nov 24 2013. What is the state of Virtual Reality overall?

Sadly, not much different than it was a year ago. Or two years ago. Things have changed... but…

Obsession, Thy Name is Amazon

Did you know you can buy just about anything on Amazon.com?

It doesn't matter if you actually need it or not, the lure is always present. You may not have ever thought of that particular item. You may have never seen one before. But suddenly there it is on your screen and before you know it-- you've hit that BUY button.

For example, long long ago I read a graphic novel (long comic book). It was a particularly good one but I hadn't thought of it in years...…
