THE NEW LL SL TOS

Today (March 31,2010) Linden Lab released their new SL TOS (Terms of Service Agreement). True to past agreements, they are giving us 30 days notice. The agreement goes into effect until April 30, 2010.

PRETTY LENGTHY

There are certain documents that are as lengthy as the SL TOS. The Bible and War and Peace immediately come to mind. However, it has to be realized that Second Life is a complex environment, so the TOS isn't going to be… Continue

How to Save Your Textures

HOW TO SAVE YOUR TEXTURES

One of the problems we face on Second Life is destroyed inventory. How many times have you ever seen the message, "Item not found in database"? That is just pure SL asset servers losing track of, wiping out, destroying you inventory. Bleh. Come coders somewhere needs bopped. Database loss is pretty lousy. Most companies don't stand for that kinda thing. Can imagines big company losing $200,000 in billables because of "item not found in database"? LOL hoo boy,… Continue

USELESS POLICIES

I've learned of an instance in which a texture company on Second Life has established a policy that their textures cannot be used off the Second Life grid (namely, on OpenSim locations). I found this policy to be somewhat amusing. Consider:

* For over six years, Linden Lab has failed to provide the special texture permissions and security measures texture merchants need to "safely" sell custom textures.

* As a result, all textures sold to builders have to be sold full-perm.

*… Continue

TROLLS = MOLES?

TROLLS = MOLES

A conspiracy theory (or not) by Wayfinder Wishbringer.

Over the past few years of reading blogs and forums, I have noticed a repeated and consistent happening that is so common it can no longer be ignored... and that leads me to believe a large number of these trolls are very likely Linden Lab employees / investors / associates in guise. Read on for evidence.

Whenever someone posts on a public forum or blog… Continue

Nation of Victoriana Leaves Second Life

The Nation of Victoriana, hosted by LittleBlackDuck Lindsay, is shutting its doors and moving to the OpenSim platform. The reasons are stated here:

http://seabreezegal.blogspot.com/2010/03/sigh-nation-owners-sad-farewell.html

It is interesting to note the reasons why; they echo the numerous blogs I've posted here. Builds suddenly turning no-mod, zero support from Linden Lab, destroyed… Continue

-- an analysis of Second Life and its stranglehold effect on global virtual reality -- by Wayfinder Wishbringer

OVERVIEW

For many, the ultimate dream of Second Life has been to create a global virtual world, easily and freely accessible by anyone owning a computer. Sometimes dubbed the "Virtual Web"-- it would be as open and financially viable as… Continue

ALTERING THE COURSE OF MICROSOFT

ALTERING THE COURSE OF MICROSOFT

-- an analysis by Wayfinder Wishbringer --

Overview: A major change in Microsoft corporate marketing philosophy could change how computer users view Microsoft as a company and Windows as a product-- and put an end to piracy of Windows. Smarter, friendlier marketing can halt the decline of market share, improve customers satisfaction, and increase the popularity of the product… Continue

Thank you all for all the support, for being always so sweet with me:) It really mean a lot to me. It is possible that I go away for a while from the site, so I thoght to give a first end of the story. I hope that you will still like it and I will try to write correctly and understandable.

HOW LINUX COULD SAVE YOUR HIDE

PULLING OUT OF A CRASH

Imagine if you will:

It's Friday. You have an important presentation in 30 minutes. You've been working all morning finishing up a rush report and are just about ready to print it out when.. WHAM! Windows crashes.

You my son, are toast. Because a crashed Windows system is truly crashed, and there is no quick and dirty fix. You could re-install XP or W7... but you don't have the 45 minutes to 3 HOURS such an… Continue

Limitation of Backup Rights

BACK UP YOUR INVENTORY NOW. Linden Lab is up to old tricks. You've been fore-warned. ; )

Linden Lab has released a rules guide for Third Party Viewers. Within those rules is the following paragraph (bold ours):

You must not use or provide any functionality that Linden Lab’s viewers do not have for exporting content from Second Life unless the functionality verifies that the content to… Continue

Akir took Issabela's hand and run with her in front of the biggest mirror. He had so many thoughts in his mind in the time of the few steps he made. What if mirrors are a gate? What if Issabela is Akuna after all? What if this is a…

Viewer 2.0: How NOT to Release a Product

SECOND LIFE VIEWER 2.0-- HOW NOT TO RELEASE A PRODUCT

Most of us are aware of the release of Viewer 2.0. How could we not be? It's been hyped by Linden Lab to the gills.

But all one has to do is read numerous blogs and initial reactions to viewer 2.0 to realize it is not all that it's spun to be. So I thought I would mention some industry standard concepts… Continue

NEW ELF CLAN LANDS ON *INWORLDZ*

"It is unwise to put all your eggs in one basket." -- ancient folk wisdom

First there was Second Life. Then there was Reaction Grid.

I am pleased to announce that Elf Clan has set up land on a second Grid, with our friends at Inworldz. Our sims there are ElvenSong and ElvenHolde.

Why? Simply because we wish to support multiple grids in this time of VR instability. We've kept our eye on… Continue

THE SECOND LIFE TWILIGHT ZONE

THE SECOND LIFE TWILIGHT ZONE

-- a speculative article based on visible platform and corporate issues

-- a cautionary tale to those with both eyes open

Imagine if you will a company, a corporation that deals not in reality, but in imagination. In this world, nothing is real. It is a world of electronic pixels on a screen, representations of concepts and actions. The buildings, the cars, the very land itself is as imaginary as a passing… Continue

UBISOFT LOSES A SALE

UBISOFT LOSES A SALE

Last night I was at store. Found a copy of the game AVATAR (based on the movie) by Ubisoft. Bought it, was walking out da door, and happened to see a bright yellow text box on the back of the game, with fine-print letters that said (basically):

"This game is protected against piracy. Registration, including your name, address and phone number will be required to install the game. You… Continue

THERE SHUTS DOWN

This Monday, March 8, will conclude a decent run of a virtual world icon: THERE is closing down.

THERE was Second Life's chief "competitor", although I don't know if either company considered themselves so much competitors as mutually respectful organizations. Like two different restaurants, one right across the street from the other, sometimes the owners visited each others establishments to savor the different food to be found there.

In a gesture of respect and graciousness,… Continue
